SUMMARY:HAB Yard Sale/Vendor Fair Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Homeless Advocacy Board is asking for your help.  On September 6th (rain date Sept 13th) they will be hosting a yard sale/vendor fair from 8AM – 1PM.  Here’s how you can help:\n\n\nAre you a crafter\, vendor\, or small business operator who has wares to sell?  You can rent a table for $40. We will provide the table and two chairs.\n\n\nDo you have items that you would like to donate for us to sell at the yard sale?  (Items can be dropped off at 227 N. Queen St. on Tuesday mornings\, or call to schedule a time for drop off – 717-723-0958) Pick up can be arranged for large donations.\n\n\nWould you like to volunteer prior to or at the event? We will need sorters\, pricers\, folks to set up\, folks to tear down\, and folks to work at the tables during the sale.\n\n\nWould you like to donate baked goods\, food items\, or paper products for us to sell at our refreshments table (soda\, water\, hot dogs\, single-serving snack packs)?\n\n\nCome and shop and show your support on the day of the sale. More details to come!\n\n\nAll proceeds go toward the work of the HAB to advocate for unhoused people and to remove the stigma surrounding homelessness. (This includes an art exhibit coming to the Ware Center in 2026\, as well as several other initiatives and events the HAB is working to put together).\n\nPlease reach out if you have any questions or would like any additional information to this email or to the HAB main email: homelessadvocacyboard@gmail.com  or call 717-723-0958.

SUMMARY:“What is Home?” A paired exhibition by Willie Baronet and Leah den Bok
DESCRIPTION:What Is Home? brings together two powerful bodies of work that challenge viewers to reconsider their assumptions about housing\, belonging\, and the human stories behind homelessness. Through mixed-media installations and intimate portraiture\, artists Willie Baronet and Leah den Bok invite us to think more deeply about the true meaning of home. \nWE ARE ALL HOMELESS — Willie Baronet \nFor more than three decades\, artist and professor Willie Baronet has traveled across cities collecting signs purchased from people experiencing homelessness. What began as an attempt to navigate his own discomfort at intersections evolved into a deep\, ongoing exploration of empathy\, identity\, and shared humanity. \nBaronet’s installation uses these handwritten signs—each a fragment of someone’s story—to form a larger narrative about visibility and vulnerability. Every sign becomes both an artifact and a mirror: a reminder of the person who wrote it\, and of the ways we see or fail to see one another in public space. Through his collection\, Baronet asks us to reflect on the discomfort\, guilt\, generosity\, or avoidance that shape how we respond to those asking for help. \nHUMANIZING THE HOMELESS — Leah den Bok \nAt fifteen years old\, Canadian photographer Leah den Bok began traveling the world to document the faces and stories of people experiencing homelessness. Her portraits—honest\, unadorned\, and profoundly humane—invite viewers into direct eye contact with individuals too often overlooked. \nEach photograph is paired with a personal story\, many shared during moments of vulnerability and trust. Through these narratives\, themes emerge: trauma\, resilience\, mental illness\, addiction\, grief\, but also humor\, gratitude\, and hope. Den Bok’s work confronts the quiet epidemic of indifference that surrounds homelessness\, echoing the sentiment that the deepest form of suffering is the feeling of being unwanted or unseen. \nThe Regitz Gallery\, located on the mezzanine level at the Ware Center. Gallery exhibits may be viewed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery offers extended hours during public shows or events. Please call the front desk at 717-871-7018 to confirm hours.
